How Do I Get There?

Desolation Sound is located at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast on the west coast mainland of British Columbia.

The hub of the region is Powell River, a town of roughly 20,000 separated from the rest of the mainland by two ferries from Vancouver, in the south, and from Vancouver Island via a 90-minute ferry across the Strait of Georgia.

The office & starting location is in Penrose Bay, Okeover Inlet, 30 minutes north of town. From here it is 8 nautical miles by kayak or motor boat to the island oasis in the heart of Desolation Sound.

Powell River can be accessed via BC Ferries from Vancouver or Vancouver Island, or via Pacific Coastal Airlines from the south terminal of Vancouver International Airport.

A comfortably designed, all-inclusive eco resort located on an uninhabited island in the heart of Desolation Sound, British Columbia - where warm Pacific waters, lively marine life and towering Coast Mountains provide a truly unique eco-resort experience. Cozy cabanas and resort structures are all handcrafted from locally milled Western Red cedar and Douglas fir. This care and detail create a rich, warm atmosphere that blends seamlessly into the west coast rainforest.

Sea kayaking is the specialty at Cabana Desolation Eco Resort, and the best way to truly experience all aspects of Desolation Sound. However, countless other options exist for you to explore your remote surroundings. Roam this diverse island and discover towering trees, nesting eagles and expansive views. Snorkel right off the point and encounter giant spiny urchins and colorful sea stars. After the sun sets, experience the wonder of the milky way above and be mesmerized by the ocean’s bioluminescence below.
