With the luxurious palm-thatched bandas perched between a mangrove-lined channel and the edge of a 12-kilometre white sandy beach, Kipungani Lamu enjoys one of the most romantic locations on the entire east African coast. The exquisite seafood, traditional Arabian shows, kayaking safaris, and diving and fishing adventures offer the perfect recipe for those seeking a true desert-island holiday. Located on the southwestern tip of Lamu Island, where the protected mangroves of Kipungani Creek meet the end of a secluded sandy beach, Kipungani is a dream destination for those seeking a true away-from-it-all island holiday.

Inside Scoop

  • A normal stay is usually 3 days (2 nights), but a longer stay is advised for better excursions like a visit to the 14th-century fort ruins in Manda Island, Lamu Old Town, local boat building and mat weaving industries in Kipungani Village, swimming with whale sharks and dolphins at Kinyika reef and Manda Toto.
