Situated deep in the national park on the ephemeral Luwi River, Luwi Camp is wonderfully remote, with no other camps or people for miles around. Tranquility envelops this camp, creating a wilderness haven that allows guests to reconnect with nature in a meaningful way.

Nestled in a grove of ancient mahogany trees, the tented suites are designed to fully immerse guests into the bush experience. Set along the riverbed and overlooking the floodplains below, guests can watch the abundant wildlife right from the privacy of their own suite. Feathertop beds, an open air, en-suite bathroom and peaceful seating area create a comfortable guest experience in this seasonal camp.

A permanent oxbow lagoon next to camp attracts wildlife from far and wide, especially during the dry winter months. A wildlife hide overlooks the resident hippo pod and offers excellent sightings of the lagoon’s frequent wildlife visitors, ranging from thirsty lions to large herds of elephants.

The Luwi surroundings are famous for lions and wild dogs. The thrill of tracking them on a walking safari is an experience not to be missed – truly exploring in the footsteps of Norman Carr. Combine walks with game drives and explorations upriver to find the elusive roan antelope, reedbuck, eland and hartebeest.

Insider Tips

  • Days in the bush usually start early, so a light breakfast is served at dawn before your first safari. A lavish buffet brunch will be awaiting your return to camp and is served at around 11:00 AM with the rest of the guests in camp, your host and guide. Afternoon tea and cake is taken at about 3:30 PM before the evening safari, and dinner for everyone is served between 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. Dinner in the camps consists of a three-course meal (at Kapani in 2013 dinner will be buffet style), freshly prepared, cooked in camp and served to you at your table.
