The dishes are traditionally rural, using products from the region. Mangalica pigs, Racka sheep and the Hungarian steppe cattle are raised through nomadic animal husbandry, and fruits and vegetables come from ecological agriculture. Marinated meat called bödönöshùs is one of our specialities. On request, we cook in the cauldron over an open fire. This is called bogrács, and the traditional fish soup halászlé is prepared in this way. We cook vegetarian and also gluten free. Fruit juices à la maison and wines from the region complete the culinary pleasures of the Lodge.

    Temperatures:

Southern Hungary has a temperate Continental climate and each season brings its own colors, crops and weather patterns. Spring is a lovely time to visit this part of the country; wild flowers adorn the meadows, and you will likely see some of the area’s wildlife.

Summer is hot, but the sunshine brings plenty of crops to the fields, lush green meadows and wonderful arrays of locally-grown vegetables and fruit. This season is for people who like Mediterranean weather and adore the sun.

Autumn on the Puszta brings pleasant daytime temperatures and harvest time; the forests turn into pools of reds and golds as the autumn colors take hold.

Winters are usually dry and cold. Around Christmastime, you can usually expect snow.
